A First-time Cat Owner

Chloe is my first cat. I’ve mostly been a dog person but decided to take the leap in 2009.

I went to a nearby rescue and it was suggested that Chloe (not her name at the time) would be a good match for me. Her story was that she took up residence in someone’s yard and all attempts at finding the owner failed. She had been in the yard for several weeks and was elusive to capture. The rescue finally out-smarted her and she was brought in. They estimated her age to be about 7. The rescue had a policy that adopters must keep the cats inside.

It took Chloe some time to fully trust me and when she finally decided to do so, we were in love. She is the sweetest girl full of affection and demands for attention. I am now cat smitten. Over the years she has acquired two lady dog sisters and they all get along well and sleep together at night.

I’m so glad I took a chance on a cat. She is 13 now, very healthy, has never had the aggravation of fleas or parasites, or the dangers of cars or predators. I never have to wonder where she is or worry that she is safe. I can hang my bird feeder on my balcony and Chloe is entertained by them coming and going.

This is a wonderful site and I hope more people join the movement to keep their felines indoors to ensure a long and healthy life.
