Cats and Racoons

Cats and Racoons

An Abbotsford vet clinic is warning local cat owners to keep their cats indoors after more than 20 cats have been injured or killed in conflicts with racoons.

Racoons are not known for hunting cats — mostly they’re scavengers — although they are known to get into scraps with pets, usually when they’re cornered. But they appear to have killed and partially eaten at least one of the cats, who belonged to Glenn Mountain Animal Hospital’s Janice Toplass.

The BC Conservation Officer Service responded to the report, saying “It really is up to pet owners to ensure the safety of their animals.”

We hope Abbotsford and other cat owners listen! Cats can be prey as well as predators, and we need to keep pets and wildlife separate for the benefit of both!
