Adventure Cats

Atlanta author Laura Moss’s new book, Adventure Cats: Living Nine Lives to the Fullest, includes a collection of sweet stories about adventurous cats, including Nanakuli, the one-eyed Hawaiian surfer cat; Floyd the Lion, who climbs around the red rocks of Utah; and Bela, the kitty who loves to explore the streeets of Brooklyn. It also includes a step-by-step guide to turning your cat into an outdoor adventurer, and loads of helpful information about training, equipment and safety.

Moss discovered leash-walking cats when she was volunteering for a cat rescue group. She came in to find a note and a tiny harness hanging beside the cage. The instructions at the local pet store where adoptions were taking place: Take the orange tabby on a walk.

“Take the cat for a walk”!?!

Much to Moss’s surprise, the ginger seemed completely comfortable on a leash and knew right where to go. Some year’s later, Moss was motivated to train her own cats when one escaped out the door.

The author also has a website which includes a nifty tool for determining if your cat is suitable for adventuring.
