Catio Tour in Portland, Oregon

Catios, or cat patios, are a way to let cats to enjoy the outdoors, while keeping them safe from cars, predators, etc, and increasing the safety of nearby birds. In Portland, Oregon, the Audobon Society and the Feral Cat Coalition teamed up to promote catios as a way of protecting both cats and wildlife.

They organized an annual Catio Tour. This year, more than 1,200 people signed up for the city’s annual Tour. The tour included eight catios featuring all kinds of ramps, perches, tree limbs and even a hammock for cats to enjoy.
Feral Cat Coalition director Karen Kraus said, “A key goal of the tour is to inspire more people to build catios for their cats. More catios mean fewer free-roaming cats, and that means fewer cats will become feral or stray.”
